Rainbow Island

An otherworldly visual spectacle in the Persian Gulf.

Happy Friday!

This is Adventure Fix, the weekly email that’s like a digital museum of wild and incredible experiences curated by professional adventure junkies.

Today we’re heading to Iran, to explore Hormuz: the Rainbow Island.

Iran’s Rainbow Island

Hormuz Rainbow Island

Nestled along the southern coast of Iran, Hormuz Island is known for its vibrant, kaleidoscopic landscapes, creating an otherworldly visual spectacle.

Thanks to volcanic activity, there are plenty of unusually shaped formations and rocks in hues of orange, red, green, gold, and blue.

One hotspot on the island is Rainbow Valley whose soil formations create a surreal palette of colors.

At Red Beach, the black-silver shoreline turns ruby red where there is a ton of iron oxide.

The blood-red hue of the soil mixes with the water and contrasts against the azure Persian Gulf.

How To Visit Hormuz - Rainbow Island

Reaching Hormuz Island is straightforward when traveling within Iran.

You have the option of boarding a ferry to Hormuz from either Bandar Abbas on the mainland or Qeshm Island, its larger neighboring counterpart in the Persian Gulf.

Since there is no airport on Hormuz Island, those arriving from outside Iran must initially fly to Qeshm Island or Bandar Abbas on the mainland, both equipped with airports, before proceeding to take a ferry to reach Hormuz Island.

We hope your travels take you in this direction very soon.

Until then - keep exploring!
