Pictured Rocks up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is one of those places that kind of takes you by surprise.

You hear “Midwest” and don’t necessarily think turquoise water and towering cliffs, but that’s exactly what you get here.

The cliffs, some of them more than 200 feet tall, are streaked with all these wild colors from the minerals in the rock. Reds, oranges, greens... it almost looks like someone painted them.

The best way to see it all is from the water.

There are boat tours if you want to sit back and take it in, or you can hop in a kayak and paddle right beneath the cliffs, past caves and waterfalls that pour straight into Lake Superior.
