Diving with leafy sea dragons in Australia is one of those wild, only-in-this-part-of-the-world experiences.

These little guys look like something out of a fantasy movie—delicate, slow-moving, and covered in leafy bits that make them almost impossible to spot in the kelp.

You’re swimming along thinking there’s nothing there, and suddenly you realize there’s a sea dragon just hovering right in front of you.

They’re mostly found in South Australia, in spots like Rapid Bay and Edithburgh. The dives are usually pretty shallow and calm, which is great because you’ll want to take your time.

It’s not about covering a ton of ground—it’s about moving slowly, scanning every patch of seaweed, and then getting that "aha!" moment when one finally comes into view.

Most people go with a local dive guide since they know where to look and how not to spook them.

It’s not an action-packed dive, but if you’re into weird and wonderful creatures, leafy sea dragons are seriously worth the trip. They’re unique, and seeing one in the wild is kind of magical.
