HIKING
Hiking New Zealand’s Dusky Track
Hiking the Dusky Track is no walk in the park—it’s one of the toughest and most remote trails in New Zealand.
Deep in Fiordland National Park, the track runs about 52 miles (84 km) between Lake Hauroko and Lake Manapouri and usually takes 8 to 10 days to finish.
This isn’t a hike you do on a whim—it’s for people who are experienced, well-prepared, and ready to get muddy, wet, and a little bit humbled by nature.
What makes the Dusky special is just how wild it is.
You’re deep in the backcountry with no cell service, hardly any other people, and some seriously challenging terrain.
There are river crossings that can turn dangerous after rain, steep climbs, and long, mucky sections where you’ll be trudging through mud up to your knees. But the scenery is incredible—lush rainforests, misty alpine ridges, and quiet lakes that look like glass. It’s raw, untouched New Zealand.
This trail definitely isn’t for beginners.
But if you’re up for a real challenge and want a hiking experience that’s off the beaten path, the Dusky Track is unforgettable.
It’s hard, messy, and totally worth it.

WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS
Spotting Ocelots in the Pantanal
Ocelots are small, sleek, and incredibly beautiful wildcats. They have golden fur and are covered in bold black spots and rosettes. They’re shy and mostly active at night, so seeing one in the wild takes some luck and patience, but it’s worth the effort.
The Pantanal is probably your best bet if you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of one.
Unlike the thick Amazon jungle, the Pantanal is more open, which makes wildlife a bit easier to spot.
Ocelots tend to hang out near the edges of forests, and some even wander close to ecolodges or farms at night. If you go on a nighttime safari or a guided spotlighting tour, your chances go way up.
Seeing one is all about timing and being quiet.
You might spot one slinking through the grass, pausing under a tree, or even climbing a low branch. It’s quick, usually silent, and incredibly cool.

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES
Crossing the Hussaini Suspension Bridge

Photo: Unknown
Walking across the Hussaini Suspension Bridge is one of those experiences you won’t forget—part terrifying, part amazing.
The bridge is basically a bunch of wooden planks strung together with cables, dangling high above the Hunza River in northern Pakistan. The whole thing sways in the wind, and you can feel it move with every step you take.
Even though it looks like something out of an adventure movie, locals actually use it as part of their daily life. And now more and more travelers come out here just to try crossing it.
It takes about 10–15 minutes to get across, but it feels way longer when you’re gripping the side wires and trying not to look down at the roaring glacial river below.
The scenery is absolutely unreal—snow-capped peaks, glaciers in the distance, and that bright blue river cutting through the rocky landscape. It’s one of the most beautiful (and intense) spots you’ll ever set foot in.
