Have you ever heard of a mud volcano? If not, we are doing our job well.

These aren’t like typical volcanoes that spew molten rock from the Earth’s mantle.

Mud volcanoes are formed where pressure from underground gases builds up and eventually gets forced to the surface.

On the way up, these gases mix with water to create a muddy soup. Some have been known to cause flames and explosions.

There are about 700 mud volcanoes in the world and the country with the most of them is Azerbaijan. A small country perched on the edge of Europe.

The country’s Gobustan National Park is the place to go if you want to see this strange geological phenomenon and find out how Azerbaijan got its name which translates to the ‘land of eternal fire’.
