Choquequirao Trek
Machu Picchu without the crowds.

Happy Friday!
This is Adventure Fix, the weekly email that takes you away from a busy week and opens your mind to new adventures and inspires you to explore more.
Today, we’re heading to Peru to take on the Choquequirao Trek.
Choquequirao Trek
When most people think of hiking to ancient ruins in Peru, Machu Picchu is usually the first thing that comes to mind.
Sure, Machu Picchu is incredible and the surrounding landscape is stunning but it is packed with tourists and their selfie sticks.
But if you want to go trekking and explore Incan ruins away from the crowds, head to Choquequirao.
Follow an ancient trail network that will take you deep into the Peruvian wilderness through deep valleys, across rushing rivers, and over steep mountain passes.
Keep an eye out for wildlife encounters, including Andean condors soaring overhead and unique species of orchids dotting the landscape.
As you approach the ruins, a sprawling complex adorned with stone terraces carve out of the mountainside comes into view.
Explore the ceremonial halls, and chambers that once held mummies, and plazas, all offering a glimpse into a moment in time when the Inca Empire was at its peak.

How to Hike the Choquequirao Trek
The classic Choquequirao out-and-back hike is the simplest and shortest option for visiting the ruins.
It takes 3 to 4 days to complete and it’s a great option if you have more limited time.
Another option is to extend your Choquequirao Trek to end up in Machu Picchu.
This makes the route an 8 to 9 days trek, and there are several routes to make it to Machu Picchu after visiting Choquequirao, including the famous Salkantay route.
Apus Peru specializes in sustainable, unique trekking experiences in the Andean region offering both private and group treks.
We hope your travels take you in this direction very soon.
Until then - keep exploring!
